Maintenance Guide
Preventative maintenance is the absolute key to maximizing your equipment's uptime and protecting your investment. When you commit to routine care, you prevent unexpected breakdowns, extend the lifespan of your machinery, and significantly reduce costly warranty claims.
Your TYPHON equipment is engineered for exceptional reliability, but it relies on you for regular service to perform at its best.
This guide provides the foundational steps to keep your machinery operating smoothly and efficiently.
Essential Safety Reminders
Before you begin any service, you must prioritize safety. Always park your equipment on flat, level ground. Lower all attachments completely to the dirt, turn off the engine, and remove the key from the ignition.
Relieve any hydraulic pressure by moving the joysticks after shutdown. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and heavy-duty gloves.
Step-by-Step Maintenance Procedures
We designed these procedures to be straightforward and practical. Remember, we also offer detailed video walkthroughs in our digital resource library to support these text guides.
1. How to Change the Engine Oil
Clean engine oil lubricates vital components and prevents severe internal damage. You must change your oil according to the exact intervals listed in your manual.
Step 1: Warm the fluid. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil. Warm oil drains much faster and carries away more suspended contaminants. Shut the engine down completely before proceeding.
Step 2: Prepare the drain pan. Locate the oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine pan and place a large, approved catch container directly underneath it.
Step 3: Drain the oil. Carefully remove the drain plug and let the old oil drain out entirely.
Step 4: Swap the filter. Locate the engine oil filter. Use a filter wrench to remove the old unit. Apply a thin coat of clean oil to the rubber gasket of the new TYPHON filter, then screw it on firmly by hand.
Step 5: Refill and verify. Reinstall the drain plug securely. Fill the engine with the exact volume of TYPHON-approved heavy-duty engine oil. Wait a few minutes, pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, and check the level to ensure it sits perfectly between the minimum and maximum lines.
2. Greasing the Pins and Bushings
Heavy equipment features dozens of pivot points. Failing to grease these joints leads directly to severe metal-on-metal wear and expensive part replacements. You should perform this task daily.
Step 1: Clean the fittings. Locate all grease fittings (zerks) on your machine. Wipe each fitting completely clean with a shop rag. If you skip this step, the grease gun will push harmful dirt directly into the joint.
Step 2: Attach the grease gun. Snap the nozzle of your grease gun securely onto the clean fitting.
Step 3: Pump the grease. Squeeze the trigger to push fresh grease into the joint. Stop pumping as soon as you see a small amount of old grease or air push out from the edges of the bushing.
Step 4: Clean up. Disconnect the gun and wipe away any excess grease to prevent dirt buildup.
3. Checking Hydraulic Fluid Levels
The hydraulic system serves as the muscle of your machine equipment. Operating with low hydraulic fluid causes the pumps to overheat and fail quickly.
Step 1: Position the machine. Park the machine in the exact service position outlined in your operator manual. Usually, this requires resting the bucket flat on the ground with the arm fully retracted.
Step 2: Check the sight glass. Walk to the side of the machine and locate the hydraulic tank sight glass.
Step 3: Read the level. The fluid must sit clearly within the marked acceptable range on the glass.
Step 4: Add fluid safely. If the level reads low, carefully clean the area around the hydraulic fill cap before opening it. Even a small amount of dust can ruin a hydraulic pump.
Pour in the specified machine hydraulic fluid until the level reaches the center of the sight glass. Do not overfill.
Commit to Consistent Equipment Care
Reliable performance requires a reliable maintenance routine. By performing these simple, step-by-step checks, you ensure your TYPHON equipment remains ready for the toughest jobs.
Always consult your machine Operator Manual for specific maintenance intervals, exact fluid capacities, and detailed safety warnings tailored to your exact model.
